TEARS IN THE FABRIC – One year on from Rana Plaza

April 24th marked 1 year since the catastrophic collapse at the Rana Plaza factory complex. Tears in the Fabric, a documentary by Rainbow Collective, looks at the effects of the disaster in exactly the way we should look at it – on a personal, emotional level – told through the words of the bereaved Razia, who lost her two daughters and son in law in the collapse.

The backdrop of clothing being increasingly disposable is an industry which also sees lives as disposable. One week on from the date of the disaster, many brands still did not know if they had been producing clothing in the building. Of those brands, many still refuse to contribute towards compensation.

Tears in the Fabric premiered at the Raising for Rana event on the 24th of April, which included a charity auction of pieces from many ethical and sustainable brands (yes, including us!) raising over £4,500 thanks to all the dedicated people involved.
